Focus: understandability of workflow nets, structural factors such as concurrency, separability, connector degree and properties of the reachability graph. Empirical case studies with University of Augsburg students measure both objective comprehension (answer correctness, time on task) and subjective rating (pairwise model comparisons). - **Petri Nets**: Bipartite graphs of places and transitions used as a mathematical modelling language for concurrent systems. Workflow nets are the sub-class used for business processes (exactly one input place, one output place, every node on a directed path between them). - **Affiliation**: University of Augsburg, Chair of Concurrent Systems (https://www.uni-augsburg.de/). - **Teaching**: Informatics 1 + 2, preparatory and C programming courses, seminars and supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses in Process Mining / Petri nets. ## Publications - Kimmel, Schalk, Lorenz (2024): "Model Factors Influencing Petri Net Understandability: A Case Study on Simplicity". Account-bound models are stored per Google account; anonymous users get a local-storage sandbox. Event-log analysis (process discovery, conformance checking) is in preparation. Free, no ads, no in-app purchases. - [ticket.tsv-friedberg.de](https://ticket.tsv-friedberg.de): Ticketing and registration portal of TSV 1862 Friedberg. Solo-built by Marc Kimmel (ASP.NET Core, C#). - [tsv-friedberg.de](https://tsv-friedberg.de): Official website of TSV 1862 Friedberg. Co-authored by Marc Kimmel (Angular + PHP API). - [marcompile](https://marcompile.com): Independent software label for Android apps and web services. Solo-run by Marc Kimmel. Currently featured: "Kleiner Kalender" (Android). - [Petri-Dish (research tool)](https://gitlab.com/uni-a/petri-dish-icpm-2025-tool-demonstration-track): Survey tool for empirical studies on the understandability of Petri nets. Developed at the Chair of Concurrent Systems, presented at ICPM and Petri Nets conferences (Java). - [JetLagAux](https://marckimmel.de/spiele/jetlagaux): Free browser-based multiplayer game on the Augsburg public transit network (AVV). Each player physically rides real tram, bus and train lines; whoever completes the longest single uninterrupted ride on a line (measured in stops) claims it. Whoever owns the most lines at the end wins. Tie-break by total stops ridden. Created and run by Marc Kimmel. Key rules: - Allowed vehicles: city buses, trams and trains only. Regional coaches, taxis, private and rental vehicles do not count. - Allowed stops: only stops shown on the AVV network map. The map can be opened from inside the game via the map icon next to the timer. - For each line only the player's single longest ride counts; multiple rides do not stack. Ownership switches when another player strictly exceeds that count. - Game ends at the configured end time, or earlier by rounded-up two-thirds vote of players. - No registration, no accounts, no in-app purchases, no ads. Sessions are stored locally in the browser. Rules at https://marckimmel.de/spiele/jetlagaux/regeln (German) and https://marckimmel.de/en/spiele/jetlagaux/regeln (English). - **Custom websites & hosting**: Bespoke websites on request for companies and organisations. Concept, development and ongoing hosting. ## Sport & voluntary work - **Trampoline gymnastics**: Department head and coach at TSV 1862 Friedberg. Former competitive athlete (Bavarian and supra-regional championships). Host of Bayerische Meisterschaften 2024 and Bayern-Challenge 2025. - **Marathon**: Active long-distance runner; annual participation in the Vienna City Marathon. ## Website pages - [/](https://marckimmel.de/) — Home (German). - [/en](https://marckimmel.de/en) — Home (English). - [/process-mining](https://marckimmel.de/process-mining) — Process Mining workspace (German). - [/en/process-mining](https://marckimmel.de/en/process-mining) — Process Mining workspace (English). - [/process-mining/modelle](https://marckimmel.de/process-mining/modelle) — Petri-net models (German). - [/en/process-mining/modelle](https://marckimmel.de/en/process-mining/modelle) — Petri-net models (English). - [/spiele/jetlagaux](https://marckimmel.de/spiele/jetlagaux) — JetLagAux game lobby (German). - [/en/spiele/jetlagaux](https://marckimmel.de/en/spiele/jetlagaux) — JetLagAux game lobby (English). - [/spiele/jetlagaux/regeln](https://marckimmel.de/spiele/jetlagaux/regeln) — JetLagAux rules (German). - [/en/spiele/jetlagaux/regeln](https://marckimmel.de/en/spiele/jetlagaux/regeln) — JetLagAux rules (English). - [/impressum](https://marckimmel.de/impressum) — Imprint (German, noindex). - [/en/impressum](https://marckimmel.de/en/impressum) — Imprint (English, noindex). - [/dataprivacy](https://marckimmel.de/dataprivacy) — Privacy policy (German, noindex). - [/en/dataprivacy](https://marckimmel.de/en/dataprivacy) — Privacy policy (English, noindex). ## Policies - This website uses Google Analytics 4 (IP-masked) for reach measurement.
